Do I need a company secretary?

Not all companies need to appoint a company secretary. If you are Ltd, it’s your choice.

The need for a company secretary may no longer be mandatory but there are a number of statutory procedures that companies must still continue to comply with.

What do I have to do to comply?

A company must have a certain amount of information made available to the public via Companies House. This is the general role of the company secretary and can be thought of as including the following:

  • keeping the public record up to date
  • making sure the company abides by both its internal regulations and the law
